The Lindbergh Flyers defeated the Mehlville Panthers 2-0 on Saturday, November 9th at Oakville High School to win their third straight district championship and head to the state quarterfinals.
Lindbergh's two goals were scored by
John Eckrich and
Grant Evans.
Carter Gruen earned the clean sheet in net for the Flyers, saving all 5 shots he faced Saturday afternoon.
Now the stage is set for the Flyers to try and make it back to the state semifinals for the second year in a row. They will travel to De Smet High School on Saturday, November 16th at 12 PM. The Flyers and Spartans faced off on October 30th, where the Spartans handed the Flyers their third and most recent loss on the season in a low scoring, 1-0 game. The Flyers were only able to get four shots on goal in the entire game while
Carter Gruen saved 3 of the 4 shots that the Spartans put on goal. We will more than likely see another defensive chess match against two great squads that are going to face off to win a state plaque and a chance to play for a state title!Â
