The Lindbergh High School cheerleaders are the official cheer team of the Lindbergh Flyers! Our award-winning program has a rich history of athletic and academic excellence, and our cheerleaders are exemplary representatives of Lindbergh High School, embodying the highest levels of spirit, leadership and service.
Our program has two teams, junior varsity and varsity, that perform throughout the year at district events and high school football and basketball games. In addition to cheering on our fellow student-athletes, we also compete in the regional and state competitions. Our junior varsity cheerleaders compete in the Game Day Timeout Division, while our varsity cheerleaders compete in the Traditional Routine Division. When not practicing or attending games, we enjoy participating in service opportunities and community events.
LHS Cheer is focused on training student-athletes to excel in competitions and game day performances, while always promoting school spirit!
General Requirements and Tryouts
High school cheerleading requires a significant time commitment and serious dedication to the team. Training includes weight lifting and conditioning, as well as team practices during the week. Tumbling is an important aspect of competition scores, and we encourage all cheerleaders to attend tumbling classes or private lessons.
Previous cheer experience is helpful, but not required to make the team. A one-week tryout is held in April of each year to select the teams for the upcoming school year. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are reserved for learning and practicing tryout materials, and Thursday is the formal tryout date.
All cheerleaders are expected to remain in good academic standing, completing 3.0 credits and passing 6-of-7 classes in the previous semester. As representatives of LHS Cheer and Lindbergh High School, all cheerleaders are expected to have high character and exemplary behavior in and out of uniform and on social media.
Schedule
Because we cheer for both fall and winter sports, cheerleading is a year-long commitment. The schedule is as follows:
- Preseason: April-July
- Fall Season: August-December
- Winter Season: January-March
Our teams typically practice 2-3 times per week, with games 1-2 days per week. Junior varsity will only cheer at home games. Varsity will cheer at home and away football games, as well as postseason football and basketball games. We try to limit most weeks to three days for junior varsity and four days for varsity, but additional practices will be added for special events or competitions.
