The Lindbergh Schools Board of Education voted on Dec. 8 to approve several improvements to the Lindbergh High School Athletic Complex, including a turf baseball and softball field, as well as relocating the school's tennis courts.
This work will be in addition to improvements campuswide that are currently ongoing as part of the Prop R bond issue construction. Prioritizing these athletic complex improvements while the campus is already under construction will allow students to enjoy the full benefits when the new building is completed for the 2022-23 school year.
Upon completion, the turf field will accommodate baseball, softball and field hockey. In addition, relocating the tennis courts will open up space for additional student and staff parking where the original courts are located.
Cooperative purchasing was used to seek competitive pricing on turf systems from The Interlocal Purchasing System (TIPS) co-op. Use of co-ops to ensure competitive pricing is best practice for school districts and follows Lindbergh's board policy.
The contract was awarded to Byrne & Jones Construction, in the amount of $2,534,329. This additional work will be funded by Certificates of Participation approved by the Board of Education on Nov. 18. This most recent facilities management and planning coincides with the board's facility master plan and demonstrates an ongoing organizational commitment to facilities maintenance.
