Girls Basketball Wraps Up 2025 with Positive Takeaways
The Girls Basketball team closed out the 2025 calendar year with a 4–5 overall record, showing steady growth, close and competitive games, and plenty to build on as the program turns its focus toward 2026.
The team opened the season with a tough road test at Marquette, then responded with an impressive three-game winning streak and a Southside Classic Tournament Championship , defeating Affton (58–4), Fox (49–36), and Oakville (39–32). A home win over Parkway Central (41–26) highlighted a strong mid-December stretch before a challenging slate at the Summit tournament to close the year.
Offensively, the balance and efficiency stood out. MJ Abercrombie led the team at 11.4 points per game, shooting 39% from the field and knocking down 12 three-pointers. Olivia Heggemeier added 10.6 points per game while shooting an efficient 46% from the floor and converting 68% from the free-throw line. Josephine Mullins chipped in 6.3 points per game, shooting over 42% overall, while Claudia Hanson and Cece Hanson provided consistent scoring depth.
On the defensive end, Heggemeier anchored the paint with an impressive 8.9 rebounds per game, while Claudia Hanson filled the stat sheet with 17 assists and 19 steals. Abercrombie added strong perimeter defense with 14 steals, and the team showed improved rebounding and ball pressure throughout the schedule.
While the record sits just under .500, the progress, balance, and effort are clear. With valuable experience gained and key contributors producing on both ends of the floor, Girls Basketball looks ahead with confidence and excitement toward 2026.
