Flyers Soar to District Semifinals

Lindbergh 35, Fox 0

The Lindbergh Flyers hosted the Fox Warriors in the MSHSAA Football Class 6 District 1 Quarterfinals on Friday, November 1st, at 6:00 PM on Flyers Field.

The Flyers received the opening kickoff and after a false start lead to a three-and-out by the offense, the Flyers defense forced a fumble on the Warriors first offensive snap. The Flyers were then able to score on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Sam Estrada to Malik Matthews.

After gaining a 7-0 advantage, the Flyers were then able to force another fumble on the Warriors first play of their second drive. The Flyers capitalized again with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Estrada to Matthews. The Jackson Bailey kick put the Flyers up 14-0.

The Warriors got the ball back, but could not get by the Flyers stifling playoff defense. The Warriors punted to the Flyers and their next drive started on the Flyers 46-yardline. The Flyers offense proceeded to march down the field and capped off another first quarter scoring drive with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Estrada to Jack Politte.

The Flyers offense slowed down a bit in the second quarter, as they only scored a 2-yard rushing touchdown from Connor Lanham, giving the Flyers a 28-0 lead heading into halftime.

Coming out of the half, Fox started with the ball and the Flyers defense was just too much for the Fox offense. The Warriors punted, giving the Flyers the ball on their own 31-yardline. Then, on the Flyers first offensive snap of the second half, Sophomore runningback, Kevin Fisher, took the ball 69-yards for a touchdown to give the Flyers a 35-0 lead with 8:24 to go in the 3rd quarter, initiating the running clock and ultimately being the final score from either team.

The Flyers offense rushed for 217 yards and passed for 91 to give the Flyers 308 yards of total offense. The Lindbergh defense was amazing, holding the Warriors to just 82 yards of total offense and forcing 2 turnovers.

This marked the 38th All-Time meeting between the Lindbergh Flyers and Fox Warriors, dating back to the 1980 season. The victory for the Flyers extends their series advantage to 23 wins over the Warriors.

Now the Flyers set their site on another district semifinal matchup with the Jackson Indians next Friday night at 7:00 pm in "The Pit".
