The Lindbergh Flyers softball team secured a 5-1 victory over the Parkway South Patriots on Wednesday, October 9th.
The Flyers got off to a strong start, scoring two runs in the first inning. Allie Waldron led off with a double and scored on an RBI single from MaryJane Abercrombie. Ellie Wigger then drove in Abercrombie with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Parkway South scored their only run in the bottom of the second inning, but the Flyers responded with another run in the third inning when Allie Waldron doubled and was driven in by Ellie Wigger.
The Flyers added insurance runs in the fourth and sixth innings, with Kiaura Lewis scoring on an RBI single from Kristen Cochran in the sixth.
Gabby McBride earned the victory in the circle, pitching five innings with 10 strikeouts and allowing just one earned run. Marlee Steiner also contributed to the pitching effort, striking out two batters in two innings of work.
The Flyers' offense was hot, recording 12 hits, five runs, and six stolen bases. With the win, the Flyers improve to 16-7Â and will host the Lafayette Lancers on Friday, October 11th at Lindbergh High School. Lafayette comes into the game with a 20-5 record and previously defeated the Flyers in a 1-0 pitchers' duel in the championship of the Suburban Showdown tournament.
