In a thrilling come-from-behind victory, the Lindbergh Flyers defeated the Lutheran St. Charles Cougars 7-6, securing a win during their homecoming week.
The game was a back-and-forth battle from start to finish. The Cougars struck first with a home run in the top of the first inning, but the Flyers responded with a three-run rally, highlighted by an RBI double from Marlee Steiner and a stolen base from Sydney Jones.
The Flyers added another run in the second inning before the Cougars rallied back with three runs of their own in the third.
Charlotte Kupferle's stolen base in the fourth inning gave the Flyers the lead once again. However, the Cougars regained the advantage with two runs in the sixth inning.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, with one run down, the Flyers staged a dramatic comeback. Sarah Studer led off with a single and stole second base. MaryJane Abercrombie followed with a double to center field, scoring Studer and tying the game. On the very next pitch, Steiner delivered the game-winning hit, a single to center field that scored Abercrombie and secured the victory for the Flyers.
With this win, the Flyers improve to 13-7 on the season and have six games remaining before hosting the district championship tournament. Their next opponent is the Cor Jesu Chargers, who they will face on Friday, October 4th at home. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:15 PM.
