The Lindbergh Flyers softball team secured a narrow 5-4 win over the Hillsboro Hawks, thanks to a strong pitching performance from Marlee Steiner and timely hitting.
Steiner dominated in the circle, striking out 12 batters and allowing just four runs on nine hits over six and one-third innings. Hillsboro took an early lead in the first inning, but the Flyers responded with a run in the second inning, thanks to a Rosemarie Brothers RBI single.
Lindbergh took control of the game in the bottom of the third inning, with Marlee Steiner's double and Kristen Cochran's sacrifice bunt leading to two runs. Kiaura Lewis extended the Flyers' lead in the sixth inning with a two-run home run to right field.
Hillsboro made a late push in the seventh inning, scoring two runs to narrow the deficit. However, Gabby McBride entered the game with two outs and successfully closed the door on the Hawks, preserving the Flyers' 5-4 victory.
The Flyers will now travel to Fenton for a cross-town rivalry matchup against the Rockwood Summit Falcons on Thursday, September 12th at 4:00 PM.
